The Taj Mahal is located in the city of Agra, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a stunning mausoleum that was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture and is considered one of the greatest wonders of the world. The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble structure that stands tall on the banks of the Yamuna River. It is adorned with intricate carvings, calligraphy, and precious stones. The monument is a perfect blend of Islamic, Persian, and Indian architecture, and is a testament to the artistic prowess of the Mughal era.
The Taj Mahal is an iconic symbol of love, and its story is as enchanting as the monument itself. It is said that Emperor Shah Jahan was devastated by the death of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and wanted to create a grand monument in her honor. The construction of the Taj Mahal took over twenty years and involved thousands of skilled artisans and craftsmen.
Visiting the Taj Mahal is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that should not be missed. It is an awe-inspiring monument that leaves visitors spellbound. The best time to visit the Taj Mahal is early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not too harsh and the crowds are thin. Kahlur Adventures offers a luxury overnight tour to Agra, where visitors can experience the grandeur of the Taj Mahal and other historic monuments in the city.
The tour includes a comfortable stay in a luxury hotel, guided tours of the Taj Mahal and other sites in Agra, and a taste of the local cuisine. SHORT ITINERARY:
Day 1– Arrive Delhi and Drive to Agra | KM: 243 KM | Duration: 3 – 4 hours |
Day 2– Agra – Delhi| Distance: 243 kms | Duration: 3 – 4 hours |
The day will start early with a drive from Delhi to Agra. Our representative will pick you up from your residence or hotel, as per your preference. The distance that you will cover is about 243 km and it takes 4 and ½ hours to reach Agra. Once you arrive at the former capital of the Mughals, you will check into a hotel. After resting for a while, the tour of Agra city will begin. You will be accompanied by Kahlur Adventures’ tour guide to visit the exquisite Agra fort and see its beautiful architecture.
Agra’s fort was built in the 16th Century, and it has marks of time gone by. Once you visit the Agra Fort, you will get to see the grandeur and finery of royal life. Our tour guide will surely keep you entertained with many fascinating stories about the events that occurred in that era. You can see the Taj shining brightly from the balcony of the fort as well. There is this rather interesting phenomenon about the Taj that keeps appearing in different shades of white throughout the day and even seems to appear bigger from a distance.
After visiting the Agra Fort, you will head to the most enchanting monument in the world, the Taj Mahal. Kahlur Adventure will facilitate you with a private tour of the Taj Mahal. Many people from around the world travel to India just to visit the Taj. The love story of Shah Jahan and his favourite wife Mumtaz has attracted many couples to visit the Taj as it has become a shrine for them. When Mumtaz died due to childbirth, a broken-hearted Shah Jahan devoted all his resources to replicating the heavenly abode of his wife on earth.
Many precious stones were sourced from various faraway lands such as Rajasthan, Afghanistan, Persia, and even Central Asia. Calligraphers, craftsmen, architects, and about 20,000 workers toiled for 16 years to build this grand mausoleum for their emperor’s deceased wife. No expense was spared by the royal coffers to give a physical form to Shah Jahan’s vision. After being overthrown by his son Aurangzeb, Shah Jahan spent his remaining life watching the Taj Mahal from a distance from the Agra Fort. He was kept under house arrest by his son.
There is speculation that Shah Jahan wanted to build a black Taj for himself as he wanted to be buried in the shadow of his wife’s mausoleum but later on, he was buried beside his wife. Mehtab Bagh was built so that the Taj Mahal could be appreciated on full moon nights from the other side of the Yamuna River. Everyone should visit the Taj Mahal at least once in their life as the beauty of it can’t be described enough. You must see it from your own eyes to realise why Rabindra Nath Tagore’s “A teardrop of the face of Eternity” is the perfect description of this beauty.
The first look at the Taj, as you enter through the grand gates of the complex, will fill your heart with innumerable emotions. You can touch the stones that were carved by great artisans’ hands and feel the everlasting love that inspired a husband to build such a monument for his late wife. After your day of historical exploration, you can indulge in the local delicacy of Agra which has a touch of Mughal cuisine and flavors. You will stay overnight at the hotel.
Overnight in The Hotel at Agra
Meal: Lunch + Dinner
You will have a hearty breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Since you have to return to Delhi on the day, you will start the day early to visit the other marvel of Mughal Architecture, Fatehpur Sikri. Kahlur Adventures’ tour guide will show you around this Red Sandstone ancient city built by the emperor Akbar from 1570 to 1585. Fatehpur Sikri is 40 km west of Agra and you will be driven there by private car.
Here you will find Jodha Mahal, a palace made for Emperor Akbar’s Rajput wife and mother of Jahangir. There is also a Dargah of mystic Salim Chisti and the iconic Buland Darwaza to be seen in Fatehpur. The mosque at Fatehpur Sikri is significant as it is an imitation of the mosque in Mecca. It is also an amalgamation of Persian and Hindu architecture which is reminiscent of the composite culture of Akbar’s rule.
After spending some quality time at this monument, you will head towards your destination. Once you reach Delhi, Kahlur Adventures’ representative will drop you off at your preferred location.
Thank you so much
Best Regards
Kahlur Adventures India.
