Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh

Bilaspur is a historical town of Himachal Pradesh buzzing with culture and colours with stories of past and present intertwined together. Originally the name of old Bilaspur was Kahlur. In the 7th century, it was the capital of Chandela Rajputs, who are believed to be descendants of Chanderwanshis Rajputs of Bundelkhand in present-day Madhya Pradesh. In 1650 AD, the ruler at that time Deep Chand shifted his capital to the left bank of Satluj, from the Kot Kahlur (Kahlur Fort) and founded Bilaspur. The old Bilaspur completely submerged in 1963, after the finished construction of Bhakra Dam.

But this little setback didn’t dent the spirits of this quaint town in the Hills. Soon the district of Bilaspur was once again settled on higher ground and much closer to the old capital. Since then the Bhakra Dam has become one of the main attractions of this town as it provides a spectacular view of the whole town and nearby mountain trails. Bilaspur has emerged as a holiday destination for many water sports enthusiasts, history buffs and people in search of tranquillity amidst nature. The name of Kahlur Adventures has been adopted from the historical pages of Bilaspur’s deep-rooted legacy.
