Standing tall as the highest mountain peak in Europe, Mount Elbrus proudly has made its presence known in the Seven Summits of the world. Mount Elbrus was formed by a massive volcano eruption that separated Europe and Asia. At an impressive elevation of 5642 meters, Mt Elbrus is located near the Georgian border in Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay–Cherkessia in Russia. It is an inactive volcano and is part of the western Caucasus Mountain range. The story behind Mt Elbrus’s name is quite interesting too. The Turkish people of the Caucasus region the Balkars gave Elbrus the name “Mingi-Tau” which translates to “resembling a thousand mountains,” as a homage to the mountain’s size. Mt Elbrus has a twin cone-shaped top, the highest one is also the most popular one which is 18,510 feet tall and the shorter one is 18,356 feet tall.

Every serious mountaineer wants to climb the Seven Summits and add this prestigious honor to their name. We at Kahlur Adventures facilitate the dreams and high ambitions of adventurous mountaineers to climb the highest peaks of the world. Mt Elbrus expedition will give you a thrill and you will get a chance to climb this peculiar peak that is a mountain as well as a volcano. The journey to the peak of Mt Elbrus is long and can be tiring but at the same time, it is technically easy. The climbers need to have basic mountaineering skills to scale this rather sizeable marvel of nature. The first successful ascent to Mount Elbrus was made in 1874 by a British expedition led by Swiss guide Peter Knebel. Elbrus is covered with 22 glaciers, which is the source of the river Kuban.

The expedition to Mount Elbrus is usually organized in the months of July and August. The weather conditions on the Mt Elbrus expedition are extremely cold and can remain chilling even in summer. Temperatures at night can be as cold as -8 degrees celsius in summer and -30 degrees celsius in winter. Since the mountain is right is positioned in the middle of the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, the wind and precipitation are carried from both the water bodies. Elbrus is laced with a cable car system that takes the climbers to the elevation of 3658 M. after reaching this point, the usual route taken by trek leaders and climbers on the south side to the summit. Although the northern route is adorned with exquisite sceneries of icy glaciers and green fields on the way to the top, the south route is more practical and you can find accommodations in mountain huts.
